Issue #13 - Stop sugarcoating and start connecting

[Issue #13]

This week we cracked open:
Radical Candor by Kim Scott

At its core, Radical Candor teaches that great relationships—both professional and personal—stem from mastering the balance between caring deeply and challenging directly.

What does that look like in practice? Scott offers a no-nonsense framework: ditch the sugarcoating, but don’t be a jerk. The goal isn’t brutal honesty but thoughtful honesty—addressing issues in a way that helps everyone grow.

One standout theme: "Ruinous empathy" can hurt as much as "obnoxious aggression." Avoiding hard truths might feel kind in the moment, but it often backfires in the long run. On the flip side, delivering criticism without compassion burns bridges. The sweet spot is Radical Candor—a place of respectful truth-telling that builds trust and strengthens bonds.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work." – Steve Jobs

What’s one piece of feedback you’ve been avoiding giving? How can you deliver it with care and candor this week?
